Meet the Team

Brad Brestel has always been drawn to people who desire to make a difference in the world.  But he is not just drawn to them, he is well equipped to serve them as a wise advisor through his background in business, law, financial services, and as a pastor.

Brad has worn many hats throughout his career, including being a staff attorney in the Nebraska Legislature, financial planner, estate attorney, home brew award winner (ask him about his amazing stout!), restaurateur & chef, pastor of stewardship and generosity, and philanthropy advisor.  He loves using all of his expertise to help families do impactful giving and get joy along the way.

Brad is a sixth generation Nebraskan.  He attended the University of Nebraska Law School, was on the Yell Squad for the Huskers, and has been a member of the Nebraska Bar since 1982. He loves to travel (yep – he’s in Iceland in that photo on the left), and he still dabbles in home brew and enjoys reading, weightlifting, listening to his vinyl collection, and hosting dinners with his wife Nancy.

Jonathan Scoonover loves helping people connect their resources to their passions to make a real impact.  He has more than two decades of experience in the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors, and a strong track record of evaluating the health and strength of nonprofits and establishing mechanisms to maximize giving.

Jonathan began his personal philanthropy journey as a newlywed, when he and his wife received some fantastic advice about experiencing the joy of giving.  Soon after, he helped establish Equitas, a philanthropic granting arm of a local private family foundation, and experienced first-hand the scaled impact of strategic giving, both locally and internationally.

Jonathan went on to serve as the executive director of innovation and interim president for Great Schools Partnership (now Knox Education Foundation).  He is also co-founder and former president of the Community Coalition Against Human Trafficking which works with multiple nonprofits and survivors who are fighting trafficking in East Tennessee.

He has been awarded Knoxville’s 40 under 40, is a graduate of the Consortium for Social Enterprise Effectiveness (CSEE), and is a member of the Leadership Knoxville Class of 2023.

Jonathan is a proud native of Knoxville, TN, where he lives with his wife, Beth, and daughter, Caroline.  He holds a Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree and a BS in Mechanical Engineering, both from the University of Tennessee.   He enjoys reading, running through the hills of TN, cheering at One Knox SC matches, and traveling with family and friends.
